Serj  Shatskov

Born in 1975 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Serj Shatskov has developed his artistic practice outside the academic framework. His path was formed independently, through the observation of the Old Masters and the study of drawing, light, rhythm, and silence as fundamental elements of composition.

Since 2022, he has been living and working in France, currently in Nice. The Mediterranean environment, historical architecture, and the particular quality of light have had a significant influence on the evolution of his visual language.

Part of his artistic research is currently developed using digital tools (iPad, Procreate), with the stylus functioning as an extension of the painterly gesture. These digital works are not conceived as an end in themselves; from the outset, they are intended as sketches and matrices to be translated onto canvas.

The process then continues through oil painting, which restores a material presence, physical depth, and tactile texture to the work.

His works do not belong to narrative or illustrative traditions, but rather to an inner process akin to a ritual. They seek to capture silent images that resist verbal explanation yet persist within perception.
